Welcome to the web-site of the Aliathon Bowling Club, Paphos, Cyprus. The club is conveniently located in Paphos (see location) with a good road network providing easy access to and from all parts of the island. The Aliathon is the leading bowling club in Cyprus and has two bowling greens, a 5 rink and an 8 rink, both with an artificial surface similar to that used for indoor bowling.
We have a clubhouse with a bar in which we hold functions so, in addition to playing bowls, there are other opportunities to socialise and make new friends. We frequently play visiting clubs from the UK and elsewhere.
Being affiliated to Bowls Cyprus, our club plays matches against the other three bowling clubs in Cyprus and some of our players have represented Cyprus at National level. Don’t let that put you off though – we cater for all levels of ability. Coaching classes are available for those who haven’t played before, why not give it a try? (see coaching).
Our club was formed in 1995 and although bowls is still in its infancy in Cyprus it is developing quickly. We now have over 100 members and new members are constantly joining. We also have a reduced subscription for people who don’t live in Cyprus all the time (see membership). Because of the weather in Cyprus, bowls is a sport which can be played all year round and having 13 rinks means that you can always get a game. It doesn’t take long to pick up the basics and you could soon be enjoying a new sport and an increased social life (see contacts).
ALIATHON ANTHEM
Blue is the colour, Bowling is our game,
We're always singing, even though we're to blame.
We'll keep on singing so what a bloomin' shame,
'Cause Bowling, Bowling is our game.
Blue is the colour, Bowling is our game,
Roll-ups or Tens, winning is our aim.
So come on team through the wind and rain,
'Cause Bowling, Bowling is our game.
Blue is the colour, so are our shirts.
Men in trousers, ladies in their skirts.
Does it really matter while we're having fun,
So long as we're playing in the "currant bun".
Now come on team, through our lips we'll sing,
'Cause Bowling, bowling is our game.
With thanks to Richard and Wendy Woo Norman and for the benefit of those not from
Cockneyland, "currant bun" apparently means the sun.
